Fertility Law encompasses the intricate legal aspects of assisted reproductive technologies, including IVF, surrogacy, gamete donation, and more.
I offer tailored legal guidance to help you expand your family.

Hi, I’m Kathleen (KJ) Adams
and I run a boutique fertility law firm in Vancouver.
If you’re looking for a lawyer who understands not just the law but the people behind this journey to parenthood, you’ve come to the right place.

I wasn't always a lawyer- I was a fertility clinic receptionist
in Halifax. That job changed everything for me. I saw firsthand the rollercoaster of hope, frustration, and joy that people experience when building their families through assisted reproductive technologies. It was there that I realized I wanted to dedicate my career to supporting families in this deeply personal journey.
Inspired, I knew I wanted to help.

I attended the University of New Brunswick School of Law with one goal: to support individuals and families through the legal complexities of fertility law.
From surrogacy to egg, embryo, and sperm donation, I’ve spent years learning how to make it all work for you.

I grew up in Musquodoboit Harbour

a small fishing community on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. That small-town, down-to-earth warmth is something I carry with me every day. I’m also a proud Xaverian, and those roots have shaped who I am—both personally and professionally.
Outside of the law, I’m a dog lover and art enthusiast.
I hold a Master's in Art History
Ifrom Queen’s University and once spent months researching 19th-century shipwreck photography. (Yes, really!)
Before settling in Vancouver
I spent years dedicated to advocacy work and building my career as a lawyer, primarily in family law, first in New Brunswick and then in Nova Scotia.
Moving from one coast to the other has brought me closer to my family, friends, and a way of life I truly love. I’m thrilled to open my firm in the heart of Kitsilano, a place that feels like home.
In my life, I’ve also witnessed friends face their own challenges with family-building

which has only deepened my resolve and passion for this field. My practice is proudly inclusive, especially for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. For many years, I’ve advocated for access to healthcare, reproductive rights for women, and gender-affirming care for trans and non-binary individuals. I understand how challenging this journey can be, and I’m here to carefully guide you through it with care and compassion.
At the heart of it all, I believe families come in many forms. Whether you’re an intended parent, surrogate, donor, exploring fertility preservation, or part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, I’m here to make the legal process smooth, transparent, and stress-free.
You're not alone.

Let’s work together to make your family-building journey as smooth and joyful as possible.
